First John McCain said that Sarah Palin sold the state jet on eBay.
Then John McCain said that Sarah Palin took no earmarks as Governor of Alaska.
Both were proven completely false.
Then John McCain said that Track Palin was shipping out as part of a National Guard Unit.
John McCain was wrong about that.
Then John McCain said that the fundamentals of the economy were strong.
Oops. That might have been true the first 27 times that he said it this year, but not on Monday.
Then on Sunday September 21st, John McCain said that Rick Davis his campaign manager took no money from the mortgage giants Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae since 2005.
Um, the NYTimes would like to set the record straight on that. Until Freddie Mac was taken over by the government last month, Rick Davis was collecting $15,000 per month.
Really, at the rate he's going, he might as well let Sarah talk to the press. Can she possibly do more harm than he?
UPDATE: Newsweek gets in on the fun. Honestly! Do you think John McCain is confused or is he following the Rove playbook of telling a lie so many times (and in this case so many lies) that soon it becomes the truth?
Second UPDATE: Huffington Post has a story quoting both the Times and Newsweek and including the video of John's lie.
Third UPDATE: Watchdog Group Campaign Money says
“John McCain's campaign manager and Freddie Mac had what amounts to
a secret half a million dollar lay-a-way plan,” said David Donnelly,
director of Campaign Money Watch. “For almost three years and as late
as last month, Freddie Mac made secret, monthly payments of $15,000 to
Rick Davis’s firm for a no-show job, apparently in exchange for
providing special access to a future McCain White House.
“Today's question is, what other secret deals are Rick Davis and the
McCain campaign hiding? The McCain campaign appears to be nothing more
than a ‘Rent-to-Own’ operation, staffed and aided by lobbyists who are
ready to cash in for themselves and their powerful clients. It’s the
worst of the pay-to-play Washington game,” Donnelly continued. “The
McCain campaign ought to immediately release all of Davis Manafort’s
clients, how much they paid, and what the firm did for the money. Does
Davis have other no-show jobs in exchange for future White House
access? If so, or if they refuse to release the information, Davis
ought to be fired.”
