A recent PEW survey found that the more often Americans go to church, the more likely they are to support the torture of suspected terrorists. 54% of people who attend church once a week think torture can be justified. Even more sad, only 1 out of every 8 Evangelicals is willing to say that torture is never justified.
I'd like to say that this is surprising, but it's no more surprising than the fact that so many Christians support the death penalty and find their justification in the Holy Writ. Maybe they should try a little more of the Gospels and a little less Old Testament?
