I agree, I'm not into the "gun thing", and I often have a hard time relating to those who are...but I appreciate this. You don't have to automatically believe in the extreme right-wing to have this right upheld.

The Second Amendment provided for the right to bear arms in the context of a milita. Part of me does think that as a nation we'd be better off with no Second Amendment. However, I believe the Constitution is for granting rights, not eliminating them, and am outranged by suggestions of restrictions to the Fourteenth Amendment (hello Roe v. Wade), so I can't very well argue for the repeal of the Second Amendment. The NRA membership is still wrong headed, and I would be hard pressed to change my mind about that.

"I am not anti-gun. I'm pro-knife. Consider the merits of the knife. In the first place, you have to catch up with someone in order to stab him. A general substitution of knives for guns would promote physical fitness. We'd turn into a whole nation of great runners. Plus, knives don't ricochet. And people are seldom killed while cleaning their knives." -Molly Ivins
