I've added a Kenya section to the blog roll. Long time readers know of my love for Kenya, Kenyans and all of East Africa. What's happening in Kenya is indescribably horrible. Two weeks ago, it was a model the model of economic stability. Today it's chaos and destruction.
At first, the MSM largely ignored the situation. Then when they started covering it, the government instituted a media blackout. So the bloggers took over and have been covering the situation admirably.
If you're interested, here's some coverage to get you started:
Time line of events
Good round-up of the situation as of January 2nd
Thinker's Room has many pictures of the aftermath of the riots in Nairobi
this isn't just tribal conflict
An Olympic sprinter loses his life in the conflict
Looking forward to what can be
This photo was taken in Nanyuki in July of 2001. Mary is a single mother, working at at training school for women run by the Methodist Church.
UPDATE: Dare I mention the irony that the son of a Kenyan has won Iowa while Kenya burns in fury over alleged election fraud?
I've been following this story with dismay.
Although I've never gotten the opportunity to travel to Kenya (but once got as far as planning a safari before the other people backed out, grrr), I've always wanted to.
It's disappointing how much the rest of the world is ignoring this news. :(

Thanks for the link.
I too am a long-term love for East Africa, especially Tanzania where I spent some time in the 90's. I just visited the Kilimanjaro region a year ago and was pleasantly surprised how much improved the situation there was after 10 years.
I was particularly terrified that things would spiral out of control as they had in Rwanda in 1994. However it seems that if anything, the Kenyans have maintained control - giving them the chance to make this crisis "their finest hour." That may be too early to tell as of today, but I'm more hopeful about things now than I was a week ago.
